Guided Tour
27Sep
As part of the exhibition tour of steirischer herbst ’25, curators Hermann Czech and Eva Kuß will personally introduce the exhibition Hermann Czech – Approximate Main Direction. Drawing on her in-depth knowledge and long-standing engagement with the work of Hermann Czech, she offers an enriched perspective on the presented projects and their historical contexts. Kuß is also the editor of the 472-page monograph published by Park Books.
Visitors will gain insights into Czech’s working methods, his theoretical reflections, and the social as well as architectural currents in which his works emerged. Eva Kuß combines precise observations on architectural history with vivid anecdotes, while also drawing connections to current questions of urban and building culture.
This tour offers the opportunity not only to discover the aesthetic and conceptual diversity of Czech’s work, but also to gain the personal perspectives of an expert who has played a decisive role in shaping the exhibition’s development.

A cooperation within the framework of steirischer herbst ’25
Hermann Czech ranks among Austria’s most renowned architects. His multifaceted work combines theory and practice, and ranges from urban planning over residential, school and hotel buildings to small-scale interventions and exhibition architecture. Czech bases his design approach on methodically developed planning decisions that simultaneously remain open to the unexpected and the everyday. The exhibition presents a selection of his work from the 1960s to the present, including theoretical projects. It also explores Czech’s critical engagement with the architectural avant-garde of the 1960s, as featured for example in the trigon exhibitions in Graz.
