The HDA – House of Architecture is a network partner in the EU-funded programme LINA. The association of 27 European cultural institutions and event platforms promotes young architects and creatives from Europe and offers them an international platform within the network.
Within the framework of the LINA Call for Projects, young talents can apply and, after a preliminary selection process, participate in exhibitions, biennials, lectures, workshops, publications, etc. throughout Europe.

Climate change presents one of the greatest challenges to our era. In the context of the European funding programme LINA (Learning, Interacting and Networking in Architecture), HDA is organizing a three-year research project with young European architectural firms.
The international project focuses on the emergence of numerous extreme weather events. Statistics show that heat waves, storms, and flooding are growing in intensity, and predictions are that storms will continue to become ever more frequent in the future.
Here is where the HDA research lab comes in. To actively respond structurally to the extreme weather conditions, new, sustainable building types must be worked out that are capable of withstanding both heavy rainfall and flooding as well as overheating.
Building from the research of the LINA Fellows in spring 2023 at HDA in Graz (https://hda-graz.at/programm/lina-hda-forschungslabor), in which traditional as well as new, sustainable building types were gathered and compiled in a publication, in the second part of the research lab we will initiate a design lab.
In cooperation with the Chair for Building Construction, Building Technology, and Design, Prof. Martin Ostermann, University Stuttgart, a workshop will take place February 13–27, 2024. For this, we are currently searching for five Fellows who would like to join us in developing new ideas for climate-resilient designs and projects.
The aim is to develop new typologies for buildings in regions that are affected by severe weather/flooding or overheating/drought. Each of the Fellows will lead a group of approximately three students with whom they will co-develop new designs as response to climatic challenges. These will be depicted with the help of plans, images, and models. The institute is equipped with material samples and a 3D printer, which will be made available for model production.
The goal at the end of the HDA research program is to present all results from Workshop I 2023 and Workshop II 2024 together in an exhibition and publication (planned for Autumn 2024) at HDA.
