Awarded the Styrian Architecture Award 2021, the Graz Museum Schlossberg by studio WG3 plays with the idea of dissolving spatial boundaries. The transformative architecture has turned the self-contained former fortress into an open space and a setting for cultural participation. Walls that had enclosed the grounds for centuries were opened up; flowing sequences of interior and exterior spaces that merge into one another, playful spatial interventions, and communication areas were created. This volume comprehensively
presents this exceptional project, illustrating in particular the development process and the involvement of various planning partners.
Additionally, the book presents the three projects awarded honorable mentions in 2021: the KAI 36 hotel by LAM ARCHITEKTUR STUDIO, the Leopoldinum – SmartCity primary school by alexa zahn architekten and the Schneebauer Geschwister buildings ensemble by KUESS Architektur.
