For 48 hours non-stop in autumn 2024, banale potenziale was dedicated to questions of so-called public space, especially the street. Alternative uses were trialled, new perspectives opened up and hidden potential made visible. "banale potenziale - Laboratory for Researching the Street" at HDA - Haus der Architektur builds on the debates of banale potenziale and takes them further. As an exhibition, meeting place and discourse space, it sheds light on the history of banale, presents the results of the 48 hours and also shows new contributions.
In the city, the private and the public are dynamically intertwined. With the temporary interventions of banale potenziale in autumn 2024, the Annenviertel became a place of encounter, exchange, work and shared experience for 48 hours. Alternative uses were trialled, new perspectives opened up and hidden potential made visible. The exhibition "banale potenziale - Laboratory for Researching the Street" provides an insight into the history of the banale, presents the results of the 48 hours and also shows new contributions. As an expansive installation, it opens up a field of experimentation that continues the debates of banale potenziale. It blurs the boundaries between the exhibition space and the street and goes beyond an exhibition to become a meeting point and space for discourse. Together with students, architecture graduates and experts, reflection on the so-called public space will be deepened. The topic will be made accessible to a wide audience at lectures, discussions and workshops, which will be condensed into the Graz neighbourhood festival "Lendwirbel".
banale potenziale is part of Banale, a series of exhibitions organised by architecture students at Graz University of Technology since 1993. It emerged from the lively and critical discussion culture of the architecture drawing rooms and was originally conceived as an exhibition of works by and for students. In recent years, it has developed into an interdisciplinary exhibition series that presents students' projects, reflects on current topics in architecture and addresses social challenges.
