Jorge Pérez Jaramillo: Medellín, an urban citizen project
Building a city for life, from „Urbanismo Social“ to urban strategies
VortragDas Institut für Städtebau der TU Graz präsentiert in Kooperation mit dem Lateinamerikanischen Institut und dem Haus der Architektur einen Vortrag von Jorge Pérez Jaramillo, dem ehemaligen Planungsdirektor der Stadt Medellín.
Pérez Jaramillo gibt Einblicke in die urbanen Transformationen, die sich in Medellín (Kolumbien) in den letzten Jahrzehnten ereigneten: Von einer Stadt in der Krise entwickelte sich Medellín zum Vorzeigebeispiel der Stadtentwicklung. Partizipative Stadtplanung und Gestaltung von öffentlichen Räumen sowie die Entwicklung von Infrastrukturen werden dabei aktiv als „soziale Werkzeuge“ benutzt.

From 1993 to 2001 Perez was dean of the Facultad de Arquitectura Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) Medellín, over those years, the school became a laboratory for Medellín's urban crisis, and this was a splendorous time, where a generation of master architects were educated. These and upcoming generations of architects are the ones that currently contribute most actively to the transformation of Medellín through public space interventions.
Jorge Perez was appointed Planning Director of Medellín from 2012 to 2015 and Deputy Director of the Metropolitan Planning Area of Medellín and member of the Technical Board of the Strategic Plan 2015 of Medellín (1995-97). Along the period, with the leadership of Mayor Aníbal Gaviria Correa, the city of Medellín has been awarded and recognized around the world, as the Most Innovative City 2012 WSJ Citi ULI, Special Mention Lee Kwan Yew Prize 2014 Singapore, 100 Resilient Cities Rockefeller Foundation, among many others.
